IBS A Result From Abnormal Nerve Function
October 15th, 2006
Nerves control how the muscles move in the large intestine. Normally a signal is sent from the nerves to the intestinal muscles when food enters the intestine. The nerves come from the brain to nerves in the intestine. They give the signal to the muscles to move the food further down the GI tract.
Unfortunately, though, certain triggers may cause your nerves to work abnormally. Any signal change will cause changes in your digestive system and can result in diarrhea and constipation. How much the signal changes can have a direct impact on the severity of these IBS symptoms.
Triggers to IBS can include stress, diet changes or environment changes. All these can set off digestive disorders and result in IBS.
